Having worked, studied and lived in various countries, I have made my home in Friesland, a northern province of the Netherlands. I am a mother of four sons and an informal foster parent to several other young people. I consider myself to be a truly global citizen, speaking 6 languages and I love to learn about other cultures and faith traditions.
I was born in Liverpool and grew up in Skelmersdale, as the daughter of a Chinese father and English mother. I have always lived with the riches which diversity brings, even if as a young girl on a council estate, I didn’t always recognise or appreciate it. I have a passion for justice and have worked for over two decades with refugees and asylum seekers. More recently I have discovered a love of art and in particular icon painting. Growing up as an Anglican, I started meditating almost twenty years ago and have been on a contemplative path ever since: at the edges, in the language of Contemplative Fire. I notice that my work in the justice arena is slowly making space for me to accompany others on their inner pilgrimage towards the light; icon painting is part of my own pilgrimage.
I found Contemplative Fire a couple of years ago and felt immediately at home. I love the warm welcome, openness and acceptance which resonates throughout Contemplative Fire. There is a resounding curiosity and care at the heart of this community. Living the trefoil: being, knowing, doing, is a daily practice, in which I feel wholly supported by all the wonderful companions on this journey.
